1. MY FILE IS OPENING IN THE WRONG PROGRAM
Your computer is making the choice to open the file in the program it thinks is best. This usually happens when you double-click the file icon to open the file. Do this instead:
Open the files directly from Photoshop or Elements. Open PHOTOSHOP or ELEMENTS and click FILE < OPEN, navigate to where you saved you file, select it and click OPEN.
2. MY FILE WON’T OPEN
PSD files can ONLY be opened in PHOTOSHOP CS2+ or PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 6+ (PS Elements). Be sure that you are opening in the right program by doing the following:
Open the files directly from Photoshop or Elements. Open PHOTOSHOP or ELEMENTS and click FILE < OPEN, navigate to where you saved you file, select it and click OPEN.
If you do not have Photoshop installed, you can install a free version of Photoshop OR Photoshop Elements by downloading it HERE (scroll to bottom).
Can I use another photo-editing program? Maybe, but I can not guarantee the files will work as I only test in Photoshop & Photoshop Elements. Let’s just say that FILES CAN ONLY BE OPENED IN PHOTOSHOP.
3. I AM HAVING TROUBLE PLACING MY PHOTOS
Clipping masks can be tricky if you haven’t used them before. Follow the tutorial below step by step.
See our VISUAL TUTORIAL HERE.
4. MY PHOTO IS COVERING THE TEXT
You have not clipped your photo. Clipping masks can be tricky if you haven’t used them before. Follow the tutorial below step by step.
See our VISUAL TUTORIAL HERE.
5. COLOR ISSUES
Color issues are device-dependent and related to your adobe color settings, monitor calibration, video card, etc. There are way too many variations for me to narrow down what could be causing your specific color issues. Colors will vary from monitor to monitor. FOR COLOR ISSUES RELATED TO PRINTING – SEE #6 BELOW
6. I AM HAVING TROUBLE SENDING MY FILES TO PRINT
PSD files are not sent directly for printing. Printing issues arise during the saving for print process, which is done by you (the buyer) and is completed using the specific directions/specifications provided by your print shop/printer.
See my tutorial SAVING YOUR FILES FOR PRINT that covers two saving options that should work for most printers. If neither of these options work, you (the buyer) will need to contact your printer directly and ask them for their instructions on how to save from a PSD file for their system.
DISCLAIMER: PLEASE BE SURE TO CHECK THE TEMPLATE(S) FOR CORRECT COLORS, COLOR MODE, SPELLING, BLEEDS, SAFE ZONES & FONTS BEFORE PRINTING. I SUGGEST A TEST PRINT FROM HOME. DIGILUXE DESIGN IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PRINTING ERRORS.
6B. MILLERS LAB USERS
Our files are set up in CMYK color mode. Millers Lab prefers RGB color mode. You will need to adjust the file color mode and save your files as .PNG files (instead of .JPG) for Millers Lab.
See our VISUAL TUTORIAL HERE. Use Step #5.
