PSD — Frequently Asked Questions

ALL PRODUCTS ARE DIY TEMPLATES, which means (you) the buyer are responsible for editing and printing. It is MY JOB (SELLER) to provide accurate product descriptions, a quality product and easy to follow instructions. It is the BUYERS RESPONSIBILITY to read the full listing (before purchase) AND edit/print the template on your own. BEFORE REQUESTING ASSISTANCE, please utilize the help information that I have put together for you.

PDF PRINTABLES BUYERSSome of the PURCHASING QUESTIONS below will relate to you, but your FAQ information is HERE.

PURCHASING QUESTIONS

HOW DO DIGITAL DOWNLOADS WORK?

Our files are DIY templates that you (the buyer) will edit and print.

Purchase the template and download it from your Etsy Purchases Tab. Your files will be available as soon as Etsy processes your payment, usually immediately, but if Etsy has issues with your payment info, it could take up to 48 hours. Unfortunately, we do not process the payments, so we have no control over processing time.

CAN YOU EDIT A TEMPLATE, CHANGE THE DESIGN OF A PRE-MADE TEMPLATE, OR CREATE A CUSTOM DESIGN FOR ME?

Sorry, but I am no longer offering custom design services, design changes to pre-made templates, or template editing services.

ARE YOUR TEMPLATES EASY TO USE?

Every effort is taken to create templates that are as easy to use as possible, but buyers will still need the following to use our templates:

  • PHOTOSHOP CS-CS6 or CC
  • Buyer MUST know how to use PHOTOSHOP
  • Buyer MUST know how to INSTALL FONTS

Buyer MUST have a WORKING KNOWLEDGE of Photoshop to be able to update text, change colors & to use the clipping masks provided. Basic Instructions are included, but they are written with the expectation that you (the buyer) will already have a WORKING KNOWLEDGE of Photoshop as required.

ARE FONTS INCLUDED WITH PURCHASE?

A list with links to the fonts used for EDITABLE TEXT will be provided as a download with purchase. Due to copyright restrictions, the actual font files CAN NOT be provided for you, you WILL need to follow the links, download & install the fonts.

FONT LICENSING CHANGES or NLA
I use fonts that are available and free for commercial use when I create a design, BUT I do NOT own or design the fonts, THEREFORE it is possible that a font that was once offered could be no longer available by the designer or may no longer be free for commercial use.

I apologize, but I do not refund for these rare issues as I have no control AND the font is not the entirety of a design. If this happens, you can purchase the font or use a similar font of your own.

DO YOU OFFER TECHNICAL SUPPORT?

To keep DIY prices low, the cost of technical support is not included within our DIY pricing. You must know how to use your version of Photoshop & install fonts.

To help you with the DIY process, our templates include detailed written instructions, visual tutorials, troubleshooting tips and a comprehensive FAQ page. Please note that all of our materials are written for buyers with previous photoshop experience, as stated as required in every listing.

PSD TUTORIALS

DO YOU OFFER REFUNDS/EXCHANGES?

Due to the digital nature of this product, purchases are non-refundable. All sales are final.

If you are having issues with your files, we will gladly provide you with a new set of files ASAP.

DO YOU OFFER PRINTING SERVICES?

Sorry, but we do not. Our templates are set up as Hi-RES digital files that the buyers can print with any professional online printing service or at a local print shop. Every lab has slightly different specifications so you (the buyer) will need to adjust the files according to your preferred printers needs.

Sorry, but I do not recommend home printing for photo cards, so I am not able to offer suggestions for materials or formatting.

TERMS OF USE

PRO-PHOTOGRAPHERS may use our templates as an add-on to the printed photo products that they offer their clients (such as prints, cards, books, albums, ect). Products must be provided to client in flattened printed form only.

EVERYONE ELSENOT FOR RESALE:
Please DO NOT RESELL, REDISTRIBUTE or SHARE these templates as a whole or in part for any reason; claim these designs as your own; or sell any design digitally or print on any online or brick & mortar store (including but not limited to Etsy, Ebay, Cafepress, etc.)

PSD TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

WHAT SOFTWARE DO I NEED?

PHOTOSHOP CS-CS6 or CC

CAN I USE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS?
I use FOLDERS to organize large amounts of text, but some versions of Elements DO NOT support the folders feature. I have specified the software requirements in each listing based on which files are set up using FOLDERS.

If you know that your version of PS ELEMENTS supports the use of FOLDERS then you are able to use any of my files. BE SURE to check before purchase.

CAN I USE ANOTHER PHOTO-EDITING PROGRAM?
Maybe, but I can not guarantee the files will work as I only test in Photoshop. Let’s just say that my FILES CAN ONLY BE OPENED in PHOTOSHOP.

HOW DO I INSTALL FONTS?

Unfortunately, I can not provide direction for installing fonts, as the steps vary depending on your specific model of computer. Here is a link to helpful font installation info from one of my favorite font sites, that might help.

DaFont.com — How to Install Fonts

HOW DO I RESIZE A TEXTBOX?
  1. Double-click on the text layer and a bounding box with anchors will appear in the corners and the center.
  2. Hover over any of the anchor boxes until the directional arrows appear.
  3. Once you see the arrow, right click on the bounding box and drag the box to the size that you need.

If you have not done this before, it may take some practice. I do not offer visual tutorials of this, so if you need a visual, you will need to search youtube for something similar to “how to resize a textbox in photoshop.”

HOW DO I RESIZE A DESIGN ELEMENT OR COLORED BOX?
  1. Select the layer of the element that you want to adjust.
  2. Select EDIT < FREE TRANSFORM from the main menu OR click CTRL + T.
  3. A bounding box with anchors will appear in the corners and the centers of the element.
  4. Hover over any of the anchor boxes until the directional arrows appear.
  5. Once you see the arrow, right click on the bounding box and drag the box to the size that you need.
If you have not done this before, it may take some practice. I do not offer visual tutorials of this, so if you need a visual, you will need to search youtube for something similar to “how to resize a textbox in photoshop.” IMPORTANT NOTE: Enlarging design elements may cause you to loose image quality depending on how much larger you choose to resize them. Making them smaller will NOT effect image quality.
CAN I CREATE A DIGITAL MAGAZINE FROM YOUR MAGAZINE FILES?

Yes, you can create a digital magazine using my magazine files, but every file host has different instructions for saving & uploading files to their site, so those instructions are not included within my documentation. I provide the PSD files, but PSD files are not submitted for publication, the PSD files will need to be saved & uploaded based instructions from your chosen hosting site.

I suggest ISSUU.COM and here is the link to their FILE INSTRUCTIONS. There are probably a variety of other sites that you can use, but you will need to source other sites and their instructions on you own.

Unfortunately, I can not assist you with troubleshooting for this process as I am not affiliated with any other site and I do not upload magazines myself so I have no idea how that process works. The best I can offer is a link to issue.com, which is a site that my buyers have reported having success with.

CAN I CREATE A PDF FOR EMAILING FROM YOUR MAGAZINE FILES?

Our magazine files are PSD files, which can be saved in a wide variety of ways, however we ONLY provide written instructions on how to save your file for professional printing. Instructions for ALL OTHER saving methods or file conversion methods (including saving as a JPG or PDF for emailing to clients) are the buyers responsibility.

SAVING AS A PDF FOR EMAILING HELP
1. CREATE PDF IN PHOTOSHOP: Unfortunately, the process/steps for saving a PSD file as a PDF file in Photoshop changes drastically depending on your version of Photoshop. With that said, I suggest a google search for something similar to “Saving a PSD file as a PDF file in Photoshop (insert your version)” and hopefully their will be instructions available online.

USE A CONVERSION SITE: Previous buyers have mentioned that there are several different free websites that will convert JPG files to a multiple page PDF. These sites can be found by using google search. I would suggest searching for “converting JPEGs to a PDF” or other similar wording.

ADOBE ACROBAT: Adobe Acrobat has also been mentioned as a way to create a multiple page PDF. Again, you would need to do a google search for something like “How to create a Multiple Page PDF using Adobe Acrobat” or other similar wording.

Unfortunately, I can not assist you with troubleshooting for these options or additional ones as I am not familiar with the process.

WHERE CAN I PRINT MY FILES?

The printers below are suggestions only, not every lab will print every style/size of template that we sell. Sourcing a print shop will be up to the buyer.

Our templates are set up using universal standards, but you may need to adjust the files according to your printers needs.

• Online: millerslab.com, vistaprint.com, overnightprints.com
• Local Print Shop: OfficeMax, OfficeDepot, Kinko’s, etc

DISCLAIMER: Please be sure to check the template(s) for correct colors, spelling, bleeds, safe zones & fonts before printing. Digiluxe Design is not responsible for printing errors.

HOW DO I TAKE A SCREENSHOT?

Unfortunately, I can not provide direction for taking a screen shot as the steps vary depending on your specific model of computer. Here is link to a quick google search that might be helpful.

How to Take A Screenshot

HOW DO I OPEN A ZIP FILE?

Unfortunately, I can not provide direction for opening a ZIP file as the steps vary depending on your specific model of computer. Here is link to a quick google search that might be helpful.

PSD TROUBLESHOOTING

1. MY FILE IS OPENING IN THE WRONG PROGRAM

Your computer is making the choice to open the file in the program it thinks is best, I can’t help you with computer settings. This usually happens when you double-click the file icon to open the file. Do this instead:

Open the files directly from Photoshop or Elements. Open PHOTOSHOP or ELEMENTS and click FILE < OPEN, navigate to where you saved you file, select it and click OPEN.

2. MY FILE WON’T OPEN

PSD files can ONLY be opened in Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, which is why it is noted in every listing that PHOTOSHOP or PS ELEMENTS is REQUIRED for use. Please, be 100% sure that you are opening the files in PHOTOSHOP or PS ELEMENTS as required. 99% of the time that buyers report that their files don’t open, it is because you are trying to open the files in another program.

Our PSD files WORK in PHOTOSHOP CS2+ or PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 6+ (PS Elements). If you do not have Photoshop installed, you can install a free version of Photoshop OR Photoshop Elements by downloading it HERE via our PSD Tutorials page.

Can I use another photo-editing program?
Maybe, but I can not guarantee the files will work as I only test in Photoshop & Photoshop Elements. Let’s just say that FILES CAN ONLY BE OPENED IN PHOTOSHOP.

3. I AM HAVING TROUBLE PLACING MY PHOTOS

You are probably not using the clipping masks provided correctly. See our visual tutorial HERE.

4. MY PHOTO IS COVERING THE TEXT

You are probably not using the clipping masks provided correctly. See our visual tutorial HERE.

5. COLOR ISSUES

Unfortunately, color issues are device-dependent and related to your adobe color settings, monitor calibration, video card, etc. There are way too many variations for me to narrow down what could be causing your specific color issues. Colors will vary from monitor to monitor.

FOR COLOR ISSUES RELATED TO PRINTINGSEE #6 BELOW

6. I AM HAVING TROUBLE SENDING MY FILES TO PRINT

Every printer has different requirements and specifications so I am not able to help with issues related to printing. PSD files are not sent directly for printing. Printing issues arise during the saving for print process, which is done by you (the buyer) and is completed using the specific directions/specifications provided by your print shop/printer.

See my tutorial SAVING YOUR FILES FOR PRINT that covers two saving options that should work for most printers here: http://digiluxedesign.com/psdsavingyourfile If neither of these options work, you (the buyer) will need to contact your printer directly and ask them for their instructions on how to save from a PSD file for their system.

MILLERS LAB USERS

Our files are set up in CMYK color mode. Millers Lab prefers RGB color mode. You will need to adjust the file color mode and save your files as .PNG files (instead of .JPG) for Millers Lab. See our tutorial SAVING YOUR FILES FOR PRINT: http://digiluxedesign.com/psdsavingyourfileSTEP #5.

DISCLAIMER FOR ALL BUYERS

PLEASE BE SURE TO CHECK THE TEMPLATE(S) FOR CORRECT COLORS, COLOR MODE, SPELLING, BLEEDS, SAFE ZONES & FONTS BEFORE PRINTING. I SUGGEST A TEST PRINT FROM HOME. DIGILUXE DESIGN IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PRINTING ERRORS.

7. MY ISSUE IS NOT COVERED IN YOUR HELP INFO

My templates are designed for experienced Photoshop users, as specified within the listing you purchased. Buyers MUST know how to use their version of Photoshop & install fonts. With that said, technical support beyond verifying that I have provided you a with working file, will NOT be provided.

To assist buyers, I provide extensive HELP DOCUMENTATION including detailed written instructions, visual tutorials, troubleshooting tips and a comprehensive FAQ page.

If your question is not covered within my help documentation, I would suggest a google search that includes your issue & your version of Photoshop somewhere within the search perimeters.
